Class
Structure
The Canskate Program consists of seven skill levels (Stage 1 to Stage 7) in a
proven learning progression. As the skaters acquire the skills for each
level, they are passed on to the next group. A list of the skills for each
level is available on request. Badges are awarded for each level achieved.
Lessons are
given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach.
Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. The coach to
student ratio is approximately 1:10. Skaters progress at
their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music
and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote
learning. Helmets are required.
Canskate is the
feeder program for all other Skate Canada Skating Programs. Additional
information about the Canskate program can be found at www.skatecanada.ca.
Family Skate
Family
Canskate sessions are a time when both the child and parent can take to the
ice to learn to skate and improve their skating skills.
First Day
Everyone must check in at the registration table at the rink entrance.
Skaters will be given a nametag and directed to a dressing room to put on
skates.
Calendars
If you have not received a session schedule you may contact the office at
226-6020 to have one mailed to you or click here.
Important
Points to Remember
- Parents are asked to
remain in the building while their child skates. You never know when
they may need you.
- Parents are not
allowed on the ice unless they are registered skating members taking lessons.
You are invited to watch the class from the stands. It is distracting to
the skaters if you stand at the ice entrance or lean over the boards.
Remember the coaches are there to teach your children.
- Skaters are not
allowed on to the ice until directed by a coach.
- Eating, drinking or
gum chewing is not allowed on-ice.
- Skaters must not
deliberately deface the ice surface.
- Inappropriate
behaviour will not be tolerated. Skater(s) will be asked to leave the
ice and situations will be discussed between parents, site-supervisor
and or coach.
Members of the
Recreational committee will be present at various sessions throughout the
season. Regular information sessions are held regarding programs, the sport
of skating and the Nepean Skating Club.
We encourage you
to volunteer within the club and support your children’s interest in
the sport. Once your children have learned how to skate they will have
acquired a life-lasting skill. They will be able to pursue figure skating,
hockey, ringette or experience the pleasure of recreational skating on the
canal.
Happy Skating!
