Blades should be sharpened regularly, (after approx 10 hours of use). New blades should be sharpened when they are purchased

Blades should be wiped dry with a soft cloth after each class and left uncovered to air dry completely to prevent rusting before being stored away

Skate guards should be used when walking from the change room to the ice entrance. Do not walk from the parking lot into the arena with skates on even with guards on, as this is hard on the blades

Helmets are mandatory for all Beginner level skaters, and it is strongly advised that all skaters wear helmets when learning to skate

Clothing should be warm but not constricting

Long underwear or skating tights under a pair of sweatpants or splash pants as well as a jacket should provide warmth

Mitts or warm gloves should be worn at all times.
